Most days it feels like nearly ten years of college stifled my desire to write, as well as my creativity. Rather than sitting down and diligently writing about a topic, in detail, it is easier and bearable when I transfer over my thoughts from FB, during a rant. It would be nice if that changes, but during this dark night of the soul, this is the best I am doing, for now. My comments are organized by bullets, but this list is not comprehensive. I like to think of it as somewhat enlightened venting:
- People feel empowered when they vote. Just imagine the message it would send to the elite douche bags if NOBODY showed up at the polls to validate their crimes and screwed up systems.
- People love voting when they get what they want, but when things do not go their way, they feel the sting of oppression and mob rule. The programmed, instinctive reaction is to strike back, with greater FORCE (violence via the State).
The names of the local yokels running for office have been redacted. This comment refers to the hypocrisy I have seen around here in regard to how people talk about politicians when they have nothing to offer, versus when they do. In this case, the candidates referred to are pro-cannabis. Mind you, I get the value of cannabis. It’s the hypocrisy that bugs me:
- At least after today, people will express how they really feel about XXXXXXX again (I don’t know her, but y’all had some pretty damning things to say, until the election got close). XXXX? Pompous asshole who uses ad hominem attacks vs. logic on FB group, WHILE running for office … Not sure which is worse: that he does it, or all of the people who think that is how to have a debate, and try to act like him.
There’s a time when the operation of the machine becomes so odious—makes you so sick at heart—that you can’t take part. You can’t even passively take part. And you’ve got to put your bodies upon the gears and upon the wheels, upon the levers, upon all the apparatus, and you’ve got to make it stop. And you’ve got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it that unless you’re free, the machine will be prevented from working at all.
― Mario Savio
As an aside, Savio was teaching at Sonoma State University when I was an undergraduate. I passed by him now and again, but sadly, I had no idea it was him, until after he died.
Here is where I got a bit personal about the impact in my life. This seems rich with material for me to write about, yet the further I get away from my roots in social work, the less I want to have anything to do with it. Of course, the only systems that seem to be allowed are systems that were screwed up by design, so even abandoning human services entirely would not free me from the grinding gears that I found to be so odious.
- Doors do not open for me like they used to. Granted, I don’t have the butt that I had when I was 16, but going against the liberal script (ANY social script … just not being a “this” or a “that”), was the death knell for many things in my life … it’s okay, because just doing what I was told nearly killed me (extreme stress, anxiety, depression, and literally sick from congestive heart failure).
A couple more:
- People may punish you for leaving a political party, but everybody jumps on you when you realize all of it is a sham…. both liberals and conservatives hate people who do not take part in their game.
- And when you realize that your entire profession is a sham? … Yikes … 3 degrees, associations, conferences, badges, awards, certificates … student loans: most would rather live the lie and be financially comfortable and socially in demand.
There’s nothing morally wrong with voting. The crime is holding an election & forcing results on people. – Adam Kokesh
